Here are a few photo's the day after she was rescued still to weak to stand on her own. Nora was so kind to take her home and was hand feed her for several days until Annie began to regain her strength.
During Annie's stay, Nora would write daily to let me know her progression and share the good news when she was began to stand on her own or how Annie started to sneak and take her computer chair.

As Nora wrote "the skinny one" took over and now bosses her dogs. Who would think this lil one would be alpha. She must be getting better!

Over the next few months of sharing stories about Annie, Nora continued her work with helping the strays in Cuba, i was truly inspired by her.
Through the progression of Annie's health we also had setbacks it was 1 step forward 2 steps back. Just when we thought she was doing so well, she fell ill again.
Nora had taken Annie to her vet and the new was not so good but we were not giving up.
April 2015:
Nora was happy to write that Annie once again was back on the road to recovery and we should start preparing for her trip. She had gained 8lbs and was eating well. It's been 6 months and now i can finally look forward to my lil cuban princess coming home. Our goal date was in May and my wish was to have her here for my birthday. What a gift that would be!

May 2015:
We still hadn't set a date for the flight and i was so worried that i had not heard from Nora. I was once again living in my inbox waiting anxiously to hear if Annie would be coming soon.
May 15th:
It was now my birthday and no Annie.. and as i checked my inbox i finally received a note from Nora.
Nora was explaining that we cannot schedule a date as Annie has stopped eating, and it was gastritis and her progression has slowed once again.

Dear Danielle, Annie is very ill, has done everything possible, but yesterday afternoon her condition worsened, has been vomiting blood, and liver, the main cause of their serious problems, is tired, it is with therapy , no pain, but the opinion of specialists who care, there is no going back. They have come to the conclusion that some fungicide, any toxic or cleaner than in the Cayo, can having triggered deterioration, this coupled with the lack of veterinary care system caused her collapse and despite its improvement in recent times, it continued and made crises now.
It is with liver protection, feeding serum and sedated so they do not suffer, are here in the house of course, and we are suffering a lot because it was part of us, I'll keep you posted, and yet give thanks because she could be rescued and she has had a lot of love and care, has been very happy this last time, thanks to you, your love for her she has been well cared for and loved.
I will keep in touch with you, and please write me, we all parties are suffering a lot
My love

Already our little rested, from 10 and 25 this morning have a new star in the sky of the dogs, and a sweet memory.
We will do a story of Annie, a story that serves to make people think that it is a crime to leave, and not continue doing it... comforted in knowing that you did everything for her, and that, on your behalf, we will make more. Annie will be a boost to keep fighting.
To cry now is necessary, helps us here we are crying with you. She is buried, and in your name has a bouquet of flowers white, like her soul, as she was.
A big hug.
Nora, Maria Julia and ANIPLANT.
I wanted to share this private note with you all to understand how caring and compassionate Nora is and her dedication to animal welfare.
Annie's story is very sad yet in the end she received so much love and care in the last few months of her life.
This was what i had wanted for her.
Many dogs/cats in Cuba are abandoned. We believe that because Annie had such good house manners that she once was owned by someone then dumped by the resort. Her life was a struggle to find food and a safe place to sleep. One thing that Nora told me was that Annie had a fear of thunder, during a bad storm in Havana.. Annie sat in Nora's lap all night shivering in fear. I can't imagine what it was like for her out in the Cayos alone and having such fear of storms. The last storm she experienced she had the warmth and comfort of Nora's lap.
This journey began with my lil Annie and through her i have found my passion in wanting to help end the suffering of animals who have been abandoned, born on the streets and ignored.
Without Annie i would have never met Nora Garcia of Aniplant who inspires me so greatly to want to end the suffering of the street dogs/cats of Cuba.
